Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Inaba Shidare’

This larger cutleaf maple is unique in that it is an upright grower but has a gorgeous cascading form. In fact, the word ‘shidare’ means “cascading”. This tree is strong and sturdy, a vigorous grower, reaching a mature height of 10-12 feet. Foliage is typical of a laceleaf, or cutleaf, variety (as the term ‘dissectum’ refers to): delicate, lacey dark purple leaves that darken throughout the summer, becoming a brilliant red into the fall.
